The Durmitor Mountains are situated in the northern part of Montenegro, in the Durmitor National Park. This park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and covers an area of approximately 390 square kilometers.
The landscape of the Durmitor Mountains is characterized by dramatic limestone peaks, deep canyons, glacial lakes, and lush forests. The tallest peak in the range is Bobotov Kuk, which stands at 2,523 meters (8,278 feet) above sea level. The mountains are dotted with numerous crystal-clear glacial lakes, the most famous of which is Black Lake (Crno jezero). These lakes are often surrounded by dense forests and offer great opportunities for various outdoor activities.
The region around the Durmitor Mountains also has a rich cultural heritage. You can find traditional Montenegrin villages with charming stone houses and churches, offering insight into the local way of life.
Departure from Belgrade at 4PM.
Car transport route: Belgrade - Nova Varoš - Pljevlja - Žabljak. Casual breaks. Arrival by midnight. Accommodation in Kovačka valley. Overnight stay.
DAY 2 - MULTI PEAKS & LAKES
Departure in front of the accommodation at 07:00. A short drive (10 min.) to the Black Lake (1415m) where we start our hike.
Planned daily hiking route: CRNO JEZERO (Black lake), 1415m - katun LOKVICE (1790m) - VELIKA PREVIJA (2145m) - TERZIN BOGAZ (2306m) - VELIKA PREVIJA (2145m) - VELIKI MEĐED (Northern peak 2287m, Southern peak 2285m) - VELIKA PREVIJA (2145m) ) - V. KALICA (1940m) - STRUGA (1900m) - CRNO JEZERO (1415m).
Return, short drive from Black Lake to accommodation. A casual break in Žabljak. Dinner & Leisure time. Overnight stay.
Statistics of the day: Total expected ascent: ~ 1240 m, total expected descent: ~ 1240 m, length of the route covered: ~ 16 km, duration of the hike with breaks: 9:30 hours, springs with drinking water: 2 - 3 (at the start nearby Black Lake, katun Lokvice, Točak).
DAY 3 - PANORAMIC HIKING DAY
Departure with all belongings at 06:30. A half-hour drive through the villages of Motički gaj and Virak to the Sedlo pass (1907m), where we start our hike.
Planned daily hiking route: SEDLO (1907m) – SUVI TAVANI (2150m) - SURUTKA (2100m) – ZELENI VIR lake (2025m) – VELIKA PREVIJA (2350m) – SKRČKI POGLED (2400m) – BOBOTOV KUK peak (2523m) - ZELENI lake VIR (2025m) – MLJEČNI DO (1950m) – URDENI DO (1760m) – ŠARBAN (1700m).
Statistics of the day: Total expected ascent: ~ 850 m, total expected descent: ~ 920 m, length of the route covered: ~ 14 km, duration of the hike with breaks: 7:00 hours, springs with drinking water: 2 (Surutka area, Mlječni do ) .
After repacking, departure for Belgrade. Casual breaks. Planned arrival in Belgrade by midnight.
